The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was supposed to be a regular dollar coin that most Americans would accept because it is so small.
Putting together a copper-nickel dollar that’s barely bigger than a quarter doesn’t make sense now. But the Susan B. Anthony Dollar was made with a lot of giving in, cutting corners, and favoring certain groups.
In just a few months, Congress was eager to get off the coin deal, which had failed. The US Mint kept making the new dollar at the same rate. In 1979, 750 million coins were made. In 1980, just under 90 million coins were made.
That year, the San Francisco Mint made two versions of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar: one to be used in circulation and one to be part of the 1980 United States Proof Set.
The 1980 United States Proof Set has six coins. This is one of them: the Susan B. Anthony Dollar from the 1980s. The other five are the Carter Nickel Proof from 1980, the Roosevelt Dime Proof from 1980, the Washington Quarter Proof from 1980, and the Kennedy Half Dollar Proof from 1980.
The coins in these sets are worth $1.91 each, but they were sold for $10, which is $40.57 today after taking inflation into account. The Mint sold 3,544,806 coins.
Each S-mint dollar is very different from the other. Many business strikes that have never been used have a shiny finish, die flow lines, and a regular look. For Proofs, the edges and reeds are sharper, the raised parts are frosty, and the fields are smoothed out to a deep mirror finish.
For some reason, the Proof version wasn’t offered to the public. However, collectors often break up Proof sets so they can sell coins separately or put them in albums. In this case, a Proof strike is more likely to spread if the record or collection is broken up.
These coins are called “Impaired Proofs” when they get dirty or touch other coins while they are being used. Even though Impaired Proofs are cool, they don’t add any value to the note itself.
What is the value of a Susan B. Anthony dollar proof from the 1980s?
If you take inflation into account, 1980 United States Proof Sets are worth about $9–$10. This is less than the $10 they were first sold for, which is $40.57 today. This is more than 75% of what they were worth before. The 1980s Janet B.
Anthony Proof costs about $5 by itself, and it costs less than $10 in Proof 69. Dollar Proofs from the 1980s should all be able to be called Deep Cameo or Ultra Cameo because of how they were made.
In the hands of NGC and PCGS, there are many “perfect” Proof 70 coins. Soon, CAC may also have some. There shouldn’t have been any damage done to Proof 70 coins after they were made. A score of “perfect” only really means “perfect.” Some types of 70s can look better than others.

This is where most people buy and sell raw and approved 1980s It’s like eBay for dollars about Susan B. Anthony.
There are often coins of all types for sale, so a collector doesn’t have to pay too much for coins with high “Buy It Now” prices. Proof 70 Deep Cameo coins may cost $150 in these ads, but they only sell for $25 to $30 at real sales. Take your time.
Also, watch out for eBay sellers who offer fake coins that haven’t been checked. As souvenirs, these coins are worthless.

Back of the design:
The front of the 1980s Susan B. Anthony: Susan B. Anthony was a suffragette. There is a picture of her on Dollar Proof, looking right. A blouse or shirtwaist with a high neck is on her, and her hair is pulled back into a bun.
Not far from Anthony’s left arm, you can see the letters FG, which stand for designer Frank Gasparro. An undecagon or hendecagon is a shape with 11 sides. The edge is made up of straight and angled lines that circle it. The word “LIBERTY” is at the top, and the US motto is to the right of Anthony’s chin:
“In God We Trust.” Eleven stars with five points are inside the rim. Seven are on the left and six are on the right. The line splits the group of stars on the right into two groups of three stars each. A small S mintmark is located just above Anthony’s right shoulder, and the year 1980 is written below her bust.
Going backwards:
The back of the card has a different patch that Michael Collins made for the Apollo 11 flight. People went to the Moon for the first time on this journey.
On the bottom third of the coin, there is a picture of the Moon with craters framed by 11 lines. On the left side of the coin, there is an eagle with wings spread out as if landing on the Moon. An olive branch is in the eagle’s beak.
The words E PLURIBUS UNUM are written in the top center, just to the right of the eagle skull. Earth can be seen above and to the left of the head. Against the dark of space, the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” are written around almost half of the edge.
“ONE DOLLAR” is written at the bottom, on top of the moon. On top of the earth and motto, thirteen stars with five points form an arc around the eagle. These stars are below the top text. The letters FG, which stand for “United States Mint Chief Engraver Gasparro,” are written on the back, below the eagle.

A lot of American coins were made by Frank Gasparro in the 1900s. At first, he worked as a junior assistant engraver for John R. Sinnock. Later, he was named the 10th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
Aside from the Memorial back of the Lincoln Cent, Gasparro also designed the Kennedy Half Dollar, both sides of the Eisenhower Dollar, and the back of the Kennedy Half Dollar.
