Natural disasters often bring unforeseen challenges, especially when it comes to essentials like food. If you’re in Oregon and have lost food purchased with SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits due to severe weather, there’s help available.
The USDA allows states to issue SNAP replacements for food destroyed in natural disasters like storms, floods, or power outages. Here’s what you need to know about getting a replacement in Oregon in 2024.
Eligibility
Were you hit by last month’s severe weather and lost food purchased with SNAP benefits? You may qualify for a replacement. This opportunity is designed specifically for Oregonians who used their Food Stamps to buy groceries that were damaged or spoiled.
Request
Getting a replacement is straightforward. According to the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), you can use one of these three options:
- Visit a local ODHS office
Find the nearest office using the ODHS Office Finder. - Call 800-699-9075
Speak to a representative to start your replacement process. - Fill out a form and email it
Download the form here, complete it, and email it to oregon.benefits@odhsoha.oregon.gov.
Deadlines
Timing is critical when requesting a SNAP replacement. Generally, you have 10 days from the date your food was destroyed to submit your request. However, if you’re in one of the following counties, you have an extended deadline until December 18, 2024:
County Name | County Name |
---|---|
Yamhill | Lincoln |
Washington | Lane |
Umatilla | Lake |
Tillamook | Klamath |
Polk | Josephine |
Multnomah | Jefferson |
Marion | Jackson |
