There are various options for migrants to receive a green card. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced a new incentive for some persons applying for permanent status.
The amended criteria state that the immigration medical examination documentation for selected Afghan nationals who landed in the United States during Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) will be valid indefinitely. This implies they won’t have to take the immigration medical exam again when applying for their green card.
Why has USCIS made this Green Card update?
This change is part of an update to the Policy Manual rules that USCIS implemented. The update is already in force indefinitely and applies to any Form I-485, which is used to register permanent residence or amend status. This applies to all forms that are pending or submitted on or after November 13, 2024.
Eligibility Requirements for Afghan Migrants:
Afghan migrants must take a comprehensive immigration test in the United States before they can be eligible for some immigration benefits. This examination must be documented on Form I-693, which includes both the immigration medical examination and the immunization record. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determined this criteria.

Purpose of Medical Examinations for immigrants in the United States
According to the official CDC website, all individuals outside the United States who apply for an immigration visa must undergo a medical examination. This applies to all refugees entering the country. These examinations are performed by panel physicians chosen by the Department of State (DOS).
